Line Study #8 - Laundry

As the semester came to an end, this was a usual occurrence in our house... large piles of clean laundry. I figure most people can relate to this. This particular pile sat there for quite a while and then I ended up finding it visually interesting and left it there longer, until I decided what to do with it. (what a great excuse to leave some laundry, huh? My husband had said, "that pile's been there for a while." I replied, "yes, it may be an art project, so it will most likely be there even longer." At this point, he gets pretty used to smiling and nodding...) And sure enough, it inspired something. Took some photos of it, playing with light and shutter speeds. Planning on making some paintings based off of these photos.

I found the linear qualities of the fabrics very compelling, all the different materials on top of one another, somewhat discarded, waiting to be put in their places.

I'm also interested in the domestic aspect of laundry and relating that to Suburbia. I'm sure there could be some very opinionated discussions on this (I think this adds a layer to the idea of my laundry project, but at the moment am more compelled with the lines). Every household embraces this task differently. In our household, my husband and I each do our own laundry, just an agreement that we came to before marriage. We are each kind of particular on laundry options and disagree on them, so we never touch each others and that works out for us really well.

Also, with that option, I can just leave mine in these huge, lovely piles and see what happens...
