Deciding to embrace my surroundings by working on a project that will focus on the aspect of line in the suburbs, in different tendencies. The formal qualities of line are just the beginning...

Line Study #7 - Garage
Since we bought our house, I have always been amazed with the 3 car garage, that my husband so quickly filled up. Every time I am in it, I find something new. There are so many lines to look at, so many things that look really expensive and I have no idea how they work. I'm interested in the idea of the 3 car garage in the suburbs; what is in them?, the clutter we hide, how we store things, organizational techniques, etc. In our household, the garage is the most "cluttered" area of the house (besides the studio of course). It is my husbands domain, he does what he pleases with it, and I am truly amazed by all of the things I see in it. Here are some images of a few things that I felt had interesting linear qualities. More to come, there is so much more in this space! stay tuned...

Line Study # 6 - Sand Pits (Maple Grove)
The "Sand Pits" or possibly even "Sand Mountains" of Maple Grove, are pretty spectacular! Let me first say that the suburb of Maple Grove has a lot of meaning to me, because it is where my parents live and where I spent my teenage upbringing. It is one of those suburbs that has expanded like crazy! Almost too much for it's own good. There are all of these sand pits everywhere that sometimes look like mountains. In places of some of them there is vegetation present on them, because they have been there for so long. It is also interesting to see them snow covered in the winters. Again, I'm planning on using these images for source material for 2-dimensional works.
Line Study #3 - Water Towers (Osseo)
Line Study # 4 - "Green Space"
Line Study #5 - "Above Ground"
Looking at the lines in...
* power lines, substations, etc.
* thinking about researching the history of electricity
* In the city many power lines are below ground. I find this interesting because one of the things I miss most about the city is the city scape that the buildings make. But, I have started to notice the "pole-scape" (? ha) that the telephone poles, etc., make in the suburbs!
* I plan on using these photos as source material for mixed media paintings, drawings and prints
